 Against The Grain

Have you ever met a person who says down, when you said up, if you say left, they will surely say right? A person that even when you give in and agree, they will disagree with their own idea just for the sake of going against the grain.

That kind of behavior can be so exhausting for any relationship, especially for committed relationships, relationships with children, spouse, team worker of committees and others.

What do you do when we run into these personalities? I personality address the problem, hear him/her out ( listening to how he/she would like to see it done), tell him/her (when dealing with a child or one person in a group) why we are going right rather than left and let it go, because remember whichever way you go, they will want the opposite. However, when dealing with adults, such as spouses or other adult committed relationships, we have to use much prayer.

It reminds me of how God must have felt when dealing with the Israelite children. He brought them out of Egypt; they complained and whined that they were all going to drown once they arrived at the Red Sea. God parted the Red Sea and He allowed them to move forward. Yet, they complained that they were hungry, they were tired, they should have stayed in Egypt, where they were fed. God gave them manna. However, it continued, one complaint after the other.

God still have that same patience with us, the patience He had with the Israelite children. However, our God is not mocked nor is His word mocked. Today, God has given us His Son and His word, to keep us connected to Him. Yet, people still complain today about the inspired word of God and His commandments. When false teachers arise as they have, changing the will of God to comfort themselves and their sins, that is the time when we must go against the grain.

Remember... God's word always trumps the word of man!
